No Hump
One of the most common body moves that
completely compromises the club's path towards
our target is "The Hump."
The Hump (or Humping it), is a move that usually
comes at the start of the downswing. On the way
down, there is a straightening of the angle
between the back and femur and also, in some
cases, the knees.. Or if you are confused, get
into an athletic stance and then hump the air in
front of you. Does that feel normal golf-wise?
If so, you are a humper.
Now, there are a few issues with this common
move. One is back pain, due to the improper
turning of the spine and back muscles.
Also, you'll sometimes experience shoulder or
elbow pain due to the arms working alone and/or
not on the proper plane of the body which can
cause stress.
So, how do we fix it? There are a number of ways
to think about this and also a number of drills.
In a
video by Shawn Clements, he discusses and
demonstrates the Hogan Power Move by using a
mirror and a short club. This is a great way to
feel the proper action of your posture
throughout the swing. You can actually do this
on the range and hit balls with this by using
anything; bag stand, bag, etc. Anyway,
this is a great drill for any golfer and can
help in a lot of different situations.
