Local Junior Scores Career Best; Comes in 1st
for Third Straight Time!
Rome
junior golfer Jonathan Bryan, 13, carded a 76
today, his career best, at an
Atlanta Junior Golf event at the Lee course
at Canongate I in Sharpsburg, GA. This was
good enough for 1st place.
In fact, this
is his third straight 1st place finish in an
Atlanta Junior event in as many weeks. He
scored an 81 at the Alpharetta Country Club in
late May, then a 79 last week at
Barnsley
Resort.
Starting on
hole #10, he had bogies on hole #11 and #15.
He then carded 10 straight pars until he bogeyed
the last two holes, giving him a 38/38.
"My mom had
surgery last week and hasn't been able to take
me to the last two events, so I've really
focused on trying to play my best for her," said
the incoming freshman at Model High School.
Asked
if he was nervous going into the final holes, he
said he wasn't. "No. I mean, I knew
I was doing well. I was really hoping I'd
par the last two holes, but I overshot the par 3
#8 and didn't get my chip close enough for a
good chance at par. Then on #9, I hit the
green on my second shot, but it bounced into the
bunker in the back. My sand shot wasn't
too bad, but I didn't get enough spin to get it
to stop close to the hole. So I had to
two-putt to get the bogey."
Jonathan's
previous career best was a 78, which he shot
on his birthday last year at the University of
Georgia Golf Course.
