Not even a late round thunderstorm that halted play for around 30 minutes could slow down Jeremy Willis this past weekend as he closed with a tournament low round of 66 on Sunday to hold off Eric Blalock and win the 2012 Herbert A. Kidd Invitational played at the Kraftsmen Club.

With four holes remaining, a strong thunderstorm with lightening sent players scrambling for cover. When play resumed, Willis was able to take care of business and hold off his challengers for the win—his second of the season on the Rome Tour. His rounds of 67 – 66 (133) enabled him to finish three shots ahead of Blalock who shot rounds of 67 – 69 (136) to take second. Third place went to Cory Tanner who fired back-to-back-to-back 70s (140).

In the First Flight, Mark Green who shot 74 – 68 (142) closed with a birdie on the final hole to forge a tie for first place with Joedy McGraw who also shot 74 – 68 (142). Finishing 3rd was Matt Rogers with rounds of 74 – 69 (143).

Action in the Second Flight saw C. Tanner come in with rounds of 80 – 75 (155) to claim first just ahead of K. Randall who had rounds of 82 – 74 (156). Third went to S. Keen who shot rounds of 81 – 78 (159).

After the tournament, players were treated to some of the finest BBQ and ribs with all the fixins! One thing is for sure, Johnny Waits and the volunteers and members of the Kraftsman Golf Club know a thing or two about BBQ.
